Explore the world of pottery with our 6-week self-directed course, designed for beginners and intermediates with a focus on handbuilding techniques. Each 2.5-hour session gives you the freedom to work on your own projects while our experienced instructors ensure that every participant gains a solid foundational knowledge of key handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab work, allowing you to confidently explore your creativity.

You'll also become familiar with essential pottery tools and materials, while focusing on shaping the various forms you've chosen and adding personal touches through carving, trimming, and surface decoration. We will also explore wheel throwing basics, such as centering and forming vessels, though the emphasis of the course will be on handbuilding.

With small class sizes of up to 8 participants, you'll receive plenty of one-on-one tuition to help refine your projects and bring your ideas to life. The course concludes with a reflective glazing session, celebrating your progress and offering feedback to guide your future pottery journey. Returning students will have the chance to further specialise in their craft, focusing on individual projects while honing their skills toward intermediate-level pottery.

Please arrive promptly. All children under 18's must be accompanied by an adult.

Please be advised to allow for approximately 5 weeks before your works are ready for collection, although we aim to get pieces fired as soon as possible. You will be emailed once your pieces is ready for collection. We are unable to post pieces. Finished pieces must be picked up from Earthworks studio within 3 months of the class.

What to Bring

We're all about having fun and getting hands-on, so come prepared to dive into the world of clay! Wear something comfortable that you won’t mind getting a little clay on, and an apron is always a good idea if you are able to bring your own fantastic, if not - we have them at the studio. Short nails make working with clay easier, and if you’ve got long hair, tying it back will keep it out of your way.
