Seasonal Workshops

Level 0 - our entry-level taster session perfect for absolute beginners, anyone returning after a long break, or those who just want some extra practice.

Level 2 - designed for makers who already feel comfortable with the basics and are ready to take things further. This course focuses heavily on improving your throwing technique, refining your centring, pulling, shaping, and consistency, while also introducing more advanced challenges like throwing larger amounts of clay, making sets, exploring lids, spouts, and handles, or developing more complex handbuilt elements to combine with thrown forms.

You’ll work with more independence while still receiving tailored, one-to-one support to help you progress. Whether you want to improve form and finesse, explore new shapes, deepen your understanding of clay, or build towards a personal project, Level 2 gives you the space, structure, and guidance to meaningfully level up your practice.

Autumn Sgraffito Workshop

27 September Sunday 10 - 1pm

Join ceramic artist Bec Wonders for a hands-on introduction to sgraffito, a beautiful decorative technique where imagery is carved through a coloured slip surface to reveal the clay beneath.

Inspired by autumn abstract marks, geometric patterns and illustrated seasonal motifs, you'll begin by experimenting with a range of carving tools and mark-making techniques on a practice tile before creating up to two finished sgraffito tiles of your own. Bec will guide you through developing your designs, exploring line, texture and negative space, with plenty of individual support throughout the session.

Suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike, all materials, tools and firing are included. Participants are also welcome to bring along their own pre-made leather-hard piece to decorate instead of working on the prepared tiles. Finished work will be transparently glazed and fired, ready for collection at a later date.

Makers are welcome to bring their own stoneware leather hard green ware to work with, tiles will be provided.

Sample Seasonal Workshop

Join us for a Spring 3-hour Hand-Painted Ceramics Workshop where you’ll learn how to decorate your own pottery using a limited three-colour palette of professional underglazes. The session runs from 2 – 5pm and includes a live demos through out giving you guidance on colour layering, brush techniques, and surface design.

We provide underglazes, palettes and a selection of new fine brushes. Participants are encouraged to bring 2 – 3 bisque-fired white stoneware pieces (bowls, cups, plates to be fired to 1220°C). These can be made in our studio using our Special White Throwing clay from Potclays.

Studio bisque pieces in Special White are also available to pre-book a minimum of 3 weeks before start of workshop (from £20 each for cups and bowls), and optional studio firing is offered at £10 per kg, students are welcome to take their wares and fire them at another studio. Perfect for all levels.

This is a great way to try something new, unwind creatively, or get back into clay with low pressure and lots of support.

What to Bring
Wear comfy clothes, short nails help, and long hair should be tied back. Aprons provided.
