Throwing the Pilgrim Flask: A Component Parts Workshop with Joseph Bull

Join us for a unique 2 day intensive with Joseph Bull, where we’ll break down the making of the pilgrim flask into its key thrown components. This workshop is designed for those with some throwing experience who are ready to challenge their skills by working towards a more complex, multi-part form.

What You’ll Explore

  • Component Throwing: Learn to throw each part of the pilgrim flask with accuracy and intention.

  • Joining & Assembly: Discover techniques for seamlessly combining thrown elements into a single, cohesive form.

  • Refining & Finishing: Shape, trim, and refine the flask to achieve balance, proportion, and character.

  • Design Thinking: Consider form and function together, exploring how each component contributes to the whole.

This workshop offers practical demonstrations, hands-on making, and direct feedback from Joseph throughout. By the end, you’ll not only have built your own version of a pilgrim flask but also gained a deeper understanding of how to approach complex, multi-part ceramic forms with confidence.
